What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is a condition that concerns the lymphatic system and its function. It is caused by the blockage of the lymph vessels, resulting in the swelling of body extremities. Some diseases like breast and skin cancer can also complicate lymphedema by entering the lymphatic passages and further disrupting the circulation of extra fluids in the body. That is why it is a standard course of action to remove lymph nodes during cancer treatments.

As shared by Dr. Tiwari himself, “Lymphedema is a persistent condition and can be managed by non-surgical methods such as elevating the affected limb and using compression garments, all of which while effective, are only temporary. In the upcoming information session, I will discuss long-term treatment options for patients dealing with lymphedema.”

About the Lecture

The Information Session: New Options for Managing Lymphedema will be held at the Delco Park Meeting Place, Dayton, Ohio on Thursday, August 16, 2018. The lecture will begin at 6:30 P.M. and will run until 8:30 P.M.

Dr. Tiwari will discuss surgical and non-surgical methods for lymphedema management. Specific surgical topics will include lymphovenous bypass procedures, vascularized lymph node transfer and liposuction in the management of lymphedema. Dr. T will also talk about who are appropriate patients for the different types of surgeries and will discuss post-operative recovery, duration of surgery and post-operative compression after surgery.

We invite everyone to join the information session. Venue seating capacity may be limited and as such, interested parties are encouraged to RSVP. Light snacks and drinks will be provided to all attendees.
