Categories for Lymphedema

Lymphedema is a blockage in the lymph vessels, which causes fluid retention and swelling of the body’s extremities. Breast cancer can contribute to lymphedema by invading the lymphatic system, disrupting the circulation of extra fluids in the body, and causing extreme pain in patients. This is why it is recommended that lymph nodes be removed during breast cancer treatment. The providers at Midwest Breast & Aesthetic Surgery are dedicated to helping alleviate discomfort in patients with lymphedema. We collaborate with the Pink Ribbon Girls to host a lecture series about how to manage lymphedema. The lectures are presented by the surgeons at Midwest Breast & Aesthetic Surgery and address topics such as vascularized lymph node transfer, lymphovenous bypass, and liposuction for long-term lymphedema management. Please watch our website for notices of upcoming lectures. We are committed to helping our patients navigate this condition and hope to see you at one of our future events.
