The Difference Between Liposuction In Men And Women

| July 11, 2022 August 2, 2023 | | Leave your thoughts

difference between male and female liposuction

According to the latest data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were over 280,000 cosmetic procedures done on male patients in 2020. As society has become more accepting of the idea of plastic surgery, this figure proves that men, just like women, are also willing to spend a significant amount of money in order to enhance their physical appearance.

Meanwhile, weight loss is a struggle that people, regardless of sex, want to overcome. In fact, liposuction was the fourth most popular cosmetic procedure among men, comprising 13% of the total cosmetic surgeries performed.

One Body Contouring Procedure, Different Effects

Let us discuss how this sought-after procedure that aims to address a very common problem has different effects when performed on men and women. Do men and women have the same goal? Are the target areas different? And whose recovery period lasts longer?

Different Problem Areas

Men and women store fat in different body parts, and liposuction can be performed in almost all areas of the body. Women wish to remove pockets of fat in their thighs, hips, and love handles. On the other hand, men carry excess fat around their midsection.

Other areas where men tend to have liposuction are the face and back. Men can also store their fats in their breasts, making them conscious because of their feminine appearance. Fats can also conceal the jawline and chin, which can be enhanced via liposuction. This gives them a sculpted, masculine appearance due to the removal of excess fats.

Different Body Goals

Men and women do not like their bodies to look the same way. When considering liposuction, women tend to be keen on getting thin, which highlights the curves of the feminine figure.

This is not the case for men, as looking toned is what they are most after. Male liposuction involves removing only small layers of fat on top of muscles in order to emphasize the masculine form.

Because male liposuction removes only a small amount of fat, it works best on men who are already at (or at least around) their target body weight. This makes liposuction the icing on the cake for their body goals, removing bulges and revealing the sculpted body that they have long desired.

Men who are considering liposuction should consult with an experienced board-certified surgeon because of the denser and more fibrous nature of their fat.

Different Healing Process

The healing requirement actually depends on the type of work of the patients. Recovery from male and female liposuction only differs slightly since men tend to have more active jobs. So, it is recommended that men take things easy and rest for up to four weeks.

This is quite longer than the recovery period for women. However, women may find similar recovery advice if they also have physically demanding jobs.

For both men and women, recovery from liposuction will be generally based on the individual. I would advise discussing the recovery time with your surgeon to have a clearer idea of how much rest you will need. They will also give you specific instructions for you to recuperate more effectively.
