Renuvion in Ohio
Renuvion is an advanced treatment that tightens tissue beneath the skin using helium plasma and radiofrequency energy. At Midwest Breast & Aesthetic Surgery, we use this technology selectively for appropriate candidates, often alongside liposuction, to enhance body contours while preserving natural-looking results.
What Is Renuvion?
Renuvion is an advanced energy device designed to tighten tissue beneath the skin in carefully selected treatment areas. It combines radiofrequency (RF) energy with helium gas to create a controlled stream of cold helium plasma. While often discussed as a skin-tightening alternative to traditional excisional surgeries, its use requires careful patient selection and adherence to FDA-cleared indications.

Is Renuvion Right for Me?
Renuvion may be a good option if you’re looking for additional tissue tightening in areas with mild to moderate skin laxity.
Good Candidates for Renuvion
- You present with mild to moderate skin laxity.
- You are undergoing liposuction and may benefit from additional tissue tightening.
- You understand the clinical limitations of energy devices for skin tightening.
- You do not have severe skin laxity or poor healing.
How It Works
01
Targeted Heating
The device delivers precise thermal energy to the underside of the skin, causing tissue coagulation and encouraging collagen contraction.
02
Rapid Cooling
The surrounding non-ionized helium gas rapidly cools the treated area, helping limit heat transfer to nearby tissues.
03
Application
The plasma stream is applied subcutaneously. It is most frequently utilized in the neck and submental (under the chin) region or to coagulate soft tissues immediately following a liposuction procedure.
Recovery Timeline
First Few Days
Acute swelling, bruising, and mild to moderate soreness peak. A medical-grade compression garment is recommended.
Weeks 3–4
Bruising resolves and acute swelling noticeably decreases. Initial improvements in tissue tightness may become noticeable, and light daily activities may gradually resume.
Weeks 4–6
The small treatment incisions continue to heal. You are typically cleared to resume normal exercise routines, lifting, and full physical activity.
Months 3–6+
New collagen continues to develop over time as residual swelling gradually improves, revealing more refined contours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Renuvion FDA-approved for body skin tightening?
Renuvion is FDA-cleared specifically to improve the appearance of loose skin in the neck and and under the chin, and for the coagulation of subcutaneous soft tissues following liposuction. The FDA has previously issued safety communications advising against its off-label use for general subdermal body skin tightening without liposuction. Your surgical team will strictly adhere to cleared indications to protect your health.
Can Renuvion replace a tummy tuck or neck lift?
If you have significant amounts of loose, overstretched skin or separated abdominal muscles, energy devices cannot provide the same structural correction as excisional surgery. During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your anatomy and goals to recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Can Renuvion be combined with liposuction?
Yes. Renuvion is commonly used alongside liposuction as part of a personalized body contouring plan when appropriate.
