How It Works
01
Tumescent Infiltration
Before fat removal begins, the targeted area is infused with a specialized tumescent fluid. This solution contains a diluted local anesthetic (lidocaine) and a vasoconstrictor (epinephrine) to minimize bleeding, bruising, and postoperative discomfort.
02
Incision and Cannula Insertion
Tiny, discreet incisions are made in natural skin creases. A thin, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted into the fat layer.
03
Fat Aspiration
The cannula is carefully maneuvered to loosen the fat cells, which are then gently suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the device.
04
Incision Closure and Compression
The micro-incisions are closed, and a specialized compression garment is immediately applied to support the new shape and minimize swelling.
Recovery Timeline
First Few Days
Swelling, bruising, and mild soreness are expected. You’ll wear a compression garment to support healing.
Week 1
Most patients comfortably return to work, driving, full-body showers, and light household chores. Oral or topical painkillers will help manage temporary bruising and swelling.
Weeks 2–3
Swelling continues to improve as your body gradually adapts to its new contours.
Months 3-6
You are cleared to resume strenuous physical activities and your regular exercise routine. Your final shape becomes more defined as residual swelling resolves.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can liposuction be combined with other surgeries?
Yes. While great as a stand-alone procedure, liposuction is frequently combined with tummy tucks, breast augmentations, or Mommy Makeovers for dramatic, full-body contouring.
How much fat can be removed?
This depends heavily on your starting weight. For healthy patients weighing over 190 lbs, we can often safely extract 5 – 7 liters of fat. For patients weighing between 100 and 110 lbs, the safe extraction volume is significantly lower.
Will I need to have it done twice?
Most patients only need one procedure. However, if a very large amount of fat needs to be removed, it may be broken into two or three sessions. Patients may also seek a secondary procedure to recontour their bodies following a pregnancy.
Is the fat removal permanent?
Yes. The fat cells extracted during the procedure will not return. However, your remaining fat cells can still expand if you gain a substantial amount of weight, which can alter your final results. Maintaining a stable, healthy lifestyle is essential.
Will liposuction tighten my loose skin?
Liposuction primarily removes volume; it does not significantly tighten overstretched skin. If you have poor skin elasticity or stretch marks, a skin-excision procedure (such as a tummy tuck) may be a more clinically appropriate option to achieve a smooth contour.
